2024 Leander ISD State of the District

The Leander Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) hosted its annual State of the District event Thursday, Oct. 30, 2024, as more than 200 community members gathered to hear directly from #1LISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., students, alumni, staff and parents as they showcased our district’s accomplishments and student contributions.

Guests were also treated to displays highlighting students’ creativity, brilliance and dedication – a remarkable demonstration of some of what #1LISD and public education has to offer.

During the event, a few friends joined Gearing in sharing insights of empowered learning and what that means – what that means as a former student, a current student, a teacher and a parent:

  • Josh Russell, Glenn HS graduate
  • Brooke Boykin, Vandegrift HS student
  • Ellyssa Netherton, Tarvin ES 2nd-grade teacher
  • Tara LeDay, #1LISD parent

In the showroom and before the start of the event, a number of talented groups helped shine a light on the opportunities available to learners in #1LISD:

  • Pitch Black and Seasons vocal ensembles from Cedar Park HS
  • Lone Star Company Navy JROTC
  • 7-Up Destination Imagination team from Stiles MS
  • ICAP Brew Crew from Akin ES
  • MobileMakers from Rouse HS
  • Interior Design student work
  • Art and Photography student work
  • LISD Assistive Technology and Braille Technology
  • High School Yearbook & Journalism
  • Career and Technical Education students

A special thank-you to the generous event sponsors, LEEF annual partners and the incredible staff, community members and student groups who helped make this event a success. And a huge shoutout to the Leander and Cedar Park chambers of commerce for partnering with LEEF to bring the incredible State of the District event to life!
