Project Scope
Construct a new warehouse facility for the Science Materials Center (SMC). The SMC creates science kits for all elementary school classrooms and on demand for middle school and high school classes. These ready-made kits cycle through all elementary schools for hands-on learning. The existing warehouse is too small for storage and distribution of the materials.
The new location will be in a lot next to LISD’s Central Transportation and Support Services buildings [map].
Project Status
- August 2024
At the August 22, 2024 Board Meeting, Trustees approved Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) #2 for the Special Education 18+ Transition Services program and the Special Education 18+ Transition Services program. GMP #2, in the amount of $32,737,659 is for the start of the construction phase of the project.
Rezoning passed by the city of Cedar Park. - July 2024
Meeting with the City of Cedar Park for rezoning of the property from residential to public service use. The Planning and Zoning committee already passed and now it goes to the City council for approval. Final approval should happen at the end of July council meeting. - May 2024
At the May 23, 2024 Board Meeting, Trustees approved Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) #1 for the Science Materials Center and the Special Education 18+ Transition Services program. GMP #1, in the amount of $554,781 will go toward equipment, services or materials that must be secured well in advance and early project startup needs. Construction is projected to start later this year. - March 2024
At the March 7, 2024 Board Meeting, VLA Architects and the Leander ISD Construction Management team presented updates, including preliminary renderings of the proposed site. - The design team is meeting with district representatives to incorporate all needs of the project.
- August 2023
At the Aug. 24, 2023 Board meeting, Trustees approved the architect and construction manager.
