Substitute Applications

All applicants must complete an online application in order to be considered for a position. If you have not done so, please select  “Job Postings”  to the left of this page. Please complete application, apply for the Substitute Position and submit your application.

As part of the employment process, applications are screened, and applicants' references are verified by Human Resources. Candidates may also be asked to have a personal interview with a member of the Substitute Office staff. Those who meet all hiring standards will be scheduled to complete appropriate paperwork and invited to a Substitute Orientation. Following completion of orientation, successful participants will be processed through the Substitute Office and are scheduled for a fingerprinting appointment.  We appreciate your patience with this process, and look forward to meeting you in the near future.

Completion of Substitute Orientation and the fingerprinting process are not guarantees of employment with Leander ISD.

Complete the online substitute/temporary employee application. (The application, proof of education, and references must all be completed in order for the application to be considered.)

Attend orientation (After careful review of your application, you will be contacted via e-mail if your qualifications meet our current needs.)

Fill out personnel paperwork during orientation.

You will be required to complete the state-mandated fingerprinting process. Each substitute/temporary employee will be required to pay a fee of 50.00 to be fingerprinted.

You will be sent an e-mail with your ID/PIN for Aesop (sub system) and additional instructions for your set up options in Aesop.
Please note: We will only contact qualified applicants when the demand requires us to expand our substitute count. Applications will continue to be reviewed throughout the school year.

Substitutes are paid $85.00 a day and $42.50 for half day assignments.
Substitutes: Long-Term Assignments (effective March 23, 2015)
A long-term (certified teacher) substitute assignment is defined as an assignment with an expected minimum of 11 days duration, when filled by the same substitute. If a substitute is selected for a long-term assignment, the following compensation rates will apply beginning on the first day of the assignment:

  • Day 1 to Day 30 paid at $100/day
  • Day 31 to End of Assignment paid at $120/day

The rates above apply throughout the duration of the long-term assignment unless the substitute is absent from the assignment for an unapproved reason. If the substitute is absent for an unapproved reason, the rate may be reset to $85/day. Should a pattern of incomplete long-term assignments occur, the substitute will not be assigned to long-term assignments for the remainder of the current school year.

*Long-Term substitutes must meet NCLB “Highly Qualified” status in the area in which they are subbing. LISD will review each substitute’s undergraduate degree and complete the appropriate paperwork to reflect areas in which s/he can do long-term assignments. Substitutes must complete a request for Highly Qualified status (available by contacting the Substitute Office).
